Lake Champlain: Heritage and History

Learn the history of Lake Champlain from Native American settlement to its role in the American Revolution. Accompanied by historians and local experts, hear of the lake’s early settlement before a cruise with narration about the capture of Fort Ticonderoga and the lower lake. Inside the fort, witness a fife-and-drum demonstration, as well as cannon and musket firings. Encounter the lake’s women steamboat captains throughout history, and hear from representatives of the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum about shipwrecks, underwater archaeology and more. At the museum, see the replica gunboat of infamous traitor Benedict Arnold, then move on to the Shelburne Museum to go onboard the last operating side-wheel steamship on Lake Champlain.
