New England Railroads: History and Heritage

Explore this fascinating part of New England’s history on wheels. Amid beautiful scenery, ride the rails, explore museums, meet with railroad historians, and people who operated these historic railroads. Visit the Naugatuck Railroad and Museum in Connecticut and the Green Mountain Railroad in Vermont. Hear about New Hampshire’s railroads from a railroad historian and journalist, and then join him on our program abroad the Conway Notch Train. A special highlight is a spectacular ride to the summit of Mount Washington aboard the Cog Railway and a visit to the museum. Our ride aboard the Cape Cod Central Railroad will include a railroad historian and a visit to a historic station. Additional stops along the way will round out this program.

At no additional cost, experience an evening on the Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train and enjoy the spectacular scenery of the White Mountains. Walking up to one mile each day over varied terrain.

Windsor Locks

Named for a set of locks on the canal that circumvents the shallows at Enfield Falls on the Connecticut River, Windsor Locks radiates small-town charm from an area less than 10 miles square. The town boasts four structures on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a tranquil hub from which to explore New England’s railroad history.
