SUNDAY

Sept 5 - Day 1  We’ll depart this morning from Boston and travel north through Maine to St John, NB. Along the way we’ll make a few stops for Lunch on our own and to stretch our legs. Dinner is included tonight in St John. (D)

MONDAY

Sept 6 - Day 2  After our continental breakfast we’ll enjoy a city tour of Saint John with its Old City market and Reversing Falls. Then we’ll head for the Bay of Fundy, the site of the highest tides in the world. Twice each day the tides - up to 46 feet - flood the beach. Created over thousands of years by the Bay of Fundy’s awesome tidal forces, we’ll see Flowerpot Rocks which were created by the clash of continents carved by melting glaciers then sculpted by the highest tides in the world. The Interpretive Center hosts a variety of services including a multi-media exhibit, a gift shop and food services. From here we continue to Cape Tormentine where we cross the new Confederation Bridge to Prince Edward Island. We’ll stop at Gateway Village before checking into our hotel. This evening we’ll enjoy a traditional Lobster Dinner. (B,D)

TUESDAY

Sept 7 - Day 3   Start the morning with a buffet breakfast before departing the hotel for our tour of Prince Edward Island. Savor the islands north shore, lovely beaches and the fishing village of North Rustico. Visit the home of Anne of Green Gables and the Province House National Historic Site in Charlottetown. This afternoon we depart on the ferry across the Northumberland Straight to Pictou, Nova Scotia and then on to Baddeck on Cape Breton Island where we’ll stay for the next two nights. (B,D)

WEDNESDAY

Sept 8 - Day 4  . Today is spent on the Cabot Trail.  This scenic highway begins in the Bras d'Or Lake area, which was the summer home of Alexander Graham Bell.  A Museum in Baddeck is dedicated to Bell and his works.  Our day will start with admission to the museum, which includes exhibits on his work with the deaf, development of aircraft and telephone.  The rest of our day will be spent along the Cabot Trail with its spectacular scenery.  Named for the explorer, John Cabot, Cabot Trail winds around the rocky splendor of Cape Breton’s northern shore, ascending to the incredible plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Dinner is once again included upon our return to our hotel. (B,D)

THURSDAY

Sept 9 - Day 5 After a full breakfast, we check out of our hotel and travel along the eastern shore to Halifax. Along the way we’ll visit Sherbrooke Village which depicts a typical Nova Scotian village from 1860 to pre-WW1.  Once In Halifax we’ll check into our hotel and enjoy Dinner at the waterfront. (B,D)

FRIDAY

Sept 10 - Day 6

Today we’ll have a guided tour of this international city with its many historic buildings, parks, good shopping and the second largest natural harbor in the world. We’ll visit the Citadel Hill National Historic site and in the afternoon we’ll visit Peggy’s Cove, one of the most photographed locations in Nova Scotia. With its weathered buildings and fleet fishing boats, the area is an artist’s paradise. The quaint Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse serves as the local post office. We’ll have Dinner here before returning to Halifax for the night. (B,D)

SATURDAY

Sept 11 - Day 7

We depart this morning and drive along the Evangeline Trail.  Admission to the Grand Pre Historic Park is included.  This site shows the history of the Acadians in Nova Scotia and commemorates the epic poem by Henry W. Longfellow, “Evangeline”.  Continuing along our way, we pass through the Annapolis Valley, the most fertile farming area in the Province to Digby. Here we’ll board the ferry back to St John where we’ll stay again tonight. (B,D)

SUNDAY

Sept 12 -Day 8

Start the day with a continental breakfast at the hotel. We’ll cross the border into Maine and travel to Acadia National Park where we’ll take in the view from Cadillac Mountain. Lunch will be on your own this afternoon in the delightful village of Bar Harbor, with its charming shops, galleries and distinctive restaurants. Overnight tonight in Portland. Dinner is once again included.

MONDAY

Sept 13 - Day 9  After breakfast this morning, we’ll return to Boston taking with us wonderful memories of our Atlantic Canada odyssey.
